Intergenerational Activies

Intergenerational learning is a big focus at Buchanan Nursery and through fantastic links with local care homes, we participate in regular visits throughout the year. This provides an ideal opportunity for children and care home residents to take part in lots of interesting activities and making plenty of new and special memories together.

Watching, learning, adapting

By working with and watching children closely, noticing the patterns of behaviour in their play, we are able to offer other activities and toys that match their chosen schema. A schema is a repeated pattern of behaviour in children’s play through which they express their ideas and thoughts as they explore the world and try to make sense of how things work.  As children grow these schemas increase in number and become more complex.

We also offer weekly French classes for the 3-5 year old children which are taught through basic language skills, songs, stories and rhymes.

Our children love to see photographs and videos of themselves taking part in everyday activities and outings so we display these within the nursery regularly. If you have any objections to your child’s photograph being taken or filmed, please inform the Nursery Manager.

Staff observe, record, review and arrange targets for children, in line with Pre Birth-3 document and Curriculum for Excellence for children aged 3-5 years, to ensure they are given the appropriate learning materials for challenging and active learning. Regular reports can be accessed through each child’s personal online Learning Journal.
