Who do you provide care for?
Our dedicated and fully trained team provide high quality childcare for babies from birth up to children aged 5 years. We provide care for a maximum of 12 children aged from birth up to 2 years old, 15 children aged from 2 years up to 3 years old and 44 children aged from 3 years but not yet attending school.
What is your approach to childcare?
We take a holistic approach to nursery care with the aim of creating a warm and positive environment that is as close to home life as possible. We provide a caring and stimulating setting, adapted to the needs of developing children where staff are seen as comforting presence.
Through lots of play opportunities and a varied programme of activities, we develop every child’s independence, self-respect and awareness of others around them.
All meals are included: our Nursery Chef creates nutritionally balanced 4 week rolling menus, including morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack, and a choice of choice of milk or water to drink throughout the day. Nappies, wipes and formula milk are also provided.
How do I apply for a place at Buchanan Nursery?
Due to demand, we often have a waiting list in place for each of our groups. All admissions are taken on a first come, first served basis or by birth date. As children are grouped according to age, if a vacancy occurs in one age group, a child of that age will be given priority.
If you would like your child to attend Buchanan Nursery, you will need to complete an enrolment form providing us with as much information as possible and then return it to our Nursery Manager, who will advise on current estimated wait times, if applicable.
How will you help my child settle in?
We offer a settling in period as we want you to feel as confident as possible about leaving your child in our care. The aim of this period is to enable the child to transition as easily as possible from home life to the nursery setting.
What should I do if my child is ill and can’t attend nursery?
If your child is poorly, please inform us as soon as possible. If your child has visited the doctor and has been given any kind of medicine, please fill out a medicine form which can be found in the desk at reception. When the form has been completed, pass it on to a member of staff: this will enable us to administer the correct dosage at the correct times.
Will I have access to my child’s files and information?
We utilise online Learning Journals, where details of each child’s activities, milestones and achievements are posted for parents to review regularly.
While all children’s files are confidential, parents will have access to their own child’s files. Parental disclosures are also confidential, both while children are clients and afterwards. The only exception to confidentiality would be when the child’s wellbeing is at risk.
What is the complaints procedure at Buchanan Nursery?
We aim to work in partnership with parents and would encourage any parent who is concerned with any aspect of their child’s care to initially approach their child’s Key Worker or the Supervisor. If this proves unsatisfactory, they should contact the Nursery Manager. If necessary, the Regional Manager will arrange a meeting with all relevant staff and the parents.
If the problem still remains unresolved, then the parents can take their complaint to the Care Inspectorate. All complaints will be dealt with as soon as possible and written records will be kept.
What Child Protection policies do you have in place?
All adults share the responsibility for promoting a child’s health and safety and ensuring, as far as possible, that all children are protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
If a member of staff, a child or another individual provides information and the Nursery Manager/Child Protection Officer considers that there is a possibility that a child has been harmed or is at risk of harm, the Nursery Manager/Child Protection Officer is required to immediately contact Social Services to discuss the circumstances and agree the immediate action to be taken. Staff are then required to co-operate with any subsequent enquiries or support plans.
If you have any questions, or would like to chat more about any aspect of childcare at Buchanan Nursery, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
